The US Army Corps of Engineers is activating Phase 2 of its flood fight procedures.
The move is in response to Tuesday's projected rise of the Mississippi River above 15 feet at the Carrollton Gauge.
The Corps is now conducting daily levee inspections from Baton Rouge to Venice.
Inspectors are looking for signs of cracks or seepage, keeping large ships at least 180 feet from the levees, and suspending waivers for any subsurface work within 1,500 feet of the levee system.
