Food Trend for 2018!

What is the food trend for 2018?

2017 was the year of the probiotic - fermented foods and supplements that help colonize the healthy bacteria in our intestines - and of course, superfoods. 2018 is set to be the year of the superspice! The latest health trend includes cumin, cinnamon, turmeric and chili. Basically, spices that are known to reduce inflammation and to keeping cravings at bay.

Turmeric—as shown in studies, has the ability to reduce inflammation throughout the body. That makes it extremely helpful for people with osteoarthritis among other illnesses. It has also been recommended for its ability to help in weight management. Turmeric is a thermogenic (literally means ‘heat-creating’) spice, that heat aids digestion.

Cinnamon—research has found this spice can help lower the blood sugar levels of type 2 diabetics which means it may help reduce sugar cravings between meals. It has also been known to help with sleep.

Chili/Cayenne pepper—another thermogenic effect so they will help boost our metabolism.

Ginger/Black Cumin (not recommended when pregnant)—both are thermogenic but also have added abilities to calm our stomach!

Fenugreek—(this is a new one.) It is super-high in iron, it helps the digestive system and is another spice that helps get rid of bloating and inflammation. It has also been found to help lower bad cholesterol without effecting good cholesterol.

It is important to note with these spices they are most effective when they are cooked into food and not just sprinkled on cold.
