Jack-o’-lanterns are a fun Halloween tradition but in our climate it’s not long before they rot. Here are a couple of tips to help yours last longer.
Wash it
We can’t completely stop the rotting process but we can slow it down. Carving experts recommend “Washing them or spraying them down with bleach. It really preserves them and makes them last longer.”
Ditch the candle
The candle can cook the pumpkin from the inside making it a tasty treat for fungi and critters. Pros advice we use artificial lighting. Little batter powered flicker tea lights to strands of white LED Christmas lights can make for a lovely look that doesn’t cook.
