BR's Louisiana Key Academy Stars on "CBS Sunday Morning" Yesterday

What used to be an empty shell of an old Baton Rouge shopping center back in the day, now houses a school that got some national recognition yesterday. The story on CBS This Morning focused in on some kids and programs at Louisiana Key Academy in the former Westmoreland Shopping Center.

Back in May, the public charter school took over the entire shopping complex on Government Street in a major expansion. Retired Baton Rouge surgeon Dr. Laura Cassidy (Senator Bill Cassidy's wife) was inspired to start the school as a result of the learning and reading difficulties with her daughter Kate.

The CBS story wasn't just about this school. It was about what dyslexia is, and what it can do. It was about the frustration of reading and comprehension many kids-and their parents-face. And this reality from a Yale study - there is no link between dyslexia and intelligence. I was moved. So was my wife who suffered for years with the learning difference.
