3 In A ROW? Watch ANOTHER South LA Talent On NBC's "Songland" Last Night!

South Louisiana is on a ROLL with music talent show competitions. We're checking boxes left and right; and NOW back to back. Let's start with the champ of this year's American Idol, Livingston's Laine Hardy. Not only did our favorite son from the LP win this year's show outright, but he just signed a big contract with Hollywood Records. Two days later after the Idol finale, Gyth Rigdon from Singer, LA was chosen as a runner up for The Voice. Gyth released his new single Way Down a couple of weeks ago. And then, there was last night. The new South Louisiana entry was Ollie Gabriel from Abbeville, LA on the national TV launch of Songland last night.

Songland is NBC’s newest talent competition series. Executive producer Adam Levine (formerly of The Voice) helped to create this show for aspiring songwriters to show major recording artists--face-to-face--that their song is a perfect fit for them to record. Last night, competitors pitched songs they wrote for multi-platinum selling artist John Legend. Our soul singer-songwriter Ollie Gabriel from Abbeville made the top 3 with his song Something New. Although not chosen in the finals, Ollie made us proud with a love song that has a pretty awesome hook to it. Check out the song performance below. After seeing this, it's clear to me Ollie won't have any trouble getting this cool song recorded by someone. Maybe even Laine? Or Gyth? I could see it.

Here's the video for Gyth Rigdon's new single, Way Down.

And let's not forget Laine Hardy. (I don't think we ever will.)
