Authorities in Thailand have had enough of the craziness. They are cracking down on visitors to the beach, which borders one of the country’s busiest airports, Phuket International Airport. This beach spot has become popular with tourists looking to take snaps with low-flying planes. Officials placed prominent warning signs all over the beach.Unfortunately, it is not working too well, as many of these picture-obsessed people are ignoring the warnings to capture that perfect extreme pic. Many tourists visiting Thailand’s Mai Khao are checking the horizon and waiting for that dangerous photo op on the beach. Now, authorities are getting tough on this.
Now, officials are developing a new safety zone near the runway that will ban people from entering. Violators allegedly will face harsh punishments, such as a fine of 40,000 baht ($1,253) or a jail sentence of up to 20 years, The Sun reported. “The maximum penalty is the death sentence,” according to airport chief Wichit Kaeothaithiam, as shared with the Bangkok Post. The put it another way, they're very serious.
Not too long along, an acrobatic couple performed a one-handed headstand inches away from a cargo plane. They appeared to be just feet away from the aircraft in the daring snap. “It didn’t touch my feet but I felt so much air from the plane and I lost my balance. It was so much fun and exciting but it was only after I realized how dangerous it was,” Nos said to SWNS. Thai officials say the potential danger doesn’t stop there. It could be a distraction for pilots.
