WATCH LSU Baseball Coach Paul Mainieri Talk About His Father's Passing

Emotions run deep when anyone loses a parent. Even for calm and cool coaches like Paul Mainieri. On Wednesday, the news broke that college baseball hall of famer Demie Mainieri died early Wednesday at the age of 90. Later on that same day, Paul Mainieri showed incredible strength by being at his usual spot in the dugout with the the Tigers. Being there for his team was important to him, and LSU responded with a 16-5 shellacking of Texas Southern 16-5.

The Tigers begin SEC play tonight at 7 pm against Kentucky at the Box, and yesterday, Mainieri met with media--as he does every week. But this one was different. As the TV cameras were recording, he broke down. For those of us who have lost a loved one, we totally relate. We mentally access photos and videos, and hit play in our brain. Over and over. It's part of mourning, and it ain't easy.

Paul Mainieri says he learned everything he knew about life - and baseball - from his father. It's obvious Demie did a good job. All we have to do is look at his son to know that.
