It's called a message but it is really more gentle strokes. We are not trying to workout tired muscles but just trying to calm a tense baby. After all they've been all sorts of new things everyday and that can be a tense experience. So start with a full body application of a say lavender oil (pediatrician may have a preferred recommendation) from top to toe, including the head and face and feet. You don’t need much, just enough to enable smooth strokes.
KEY POINT: Always use downward strokes...the idea is we are taking the excess energy away from the brain to calm your baby. This physical contact is calming for their nerves, too.
Gently massage your baby back and front, with downward strokes starting slowly - try 5 mins, and building up to 10-15 mins.
