ACK, now studies are say drinking alcohol may lead to Alzheimer's!
While a glass of red wine is considered good for our hearts, binge drinking alcohol stops the brain from clearing away toxic clumps that lead to Alzheimer’s.
Large amounts of alcohol could make the brain less able to repair itself, too. Scientists have found heavy drinking damages the genes that are responsible for helping to clear the random proteins that form plaques in the brain.
According to research from the University of Illinois, in healthy brains there are cells that work to clear the plaques or clumps of protein away. They are also called amyloid beta and they cause brain degeneration in Alzheimer's patients. Alcohol messes with the cells ability to clear them away.
So once again everything in moderation seems to be the rule.
