As annual flu vaccines are not always effective at preventing infections; taking the extra step of strengthening our bodies’ defenses is always advised. New research, from Washington University School of Medicine in St Louis, has apparently identified the exact gut microbes that might provide that protection. That microbe has been found to thrive when given the natural compounds found in berries, tea and red wine. While test on mice seem to indicate, that having more of the flavonoids found in those compounds won’t always completely prevent influenza, it does lessen the severity of the illness.
