It's being called computer vision syndrome or digital eye strain. It is caused by long time use of digital devices like our computers, tablets, and smartphones. We end up staring at a glare, usually in bad lighting, and not blinking enough. It is estimated we blink 66% less when staring at our screens. That is only part of the problem and to what degree the syndrome really effects us the research is still out. However optometrist recommend we can prevent or alleviate the problem by following the 20/20/20 rule: Take a 20 second break to look at something 20 feet away every 20 minutes!
