Low Carb, Low Blow to Your Health?

A fast popular way to lose weight has been to eliminate carbohydrates from our diets.  In the short term they are great for reducing both body weight and body fat but not good for our digestive system. When we leave grains, vegetables, and fruit out of our diets we are cutting out major sources of fiber. That fiber is vital for the beneficial bacteria to break down food in our gut.

So where is the compromise? If you want to cut carbs to lose weight but still stay in balance you need to double or triple your intake of vegetables. The darker green the vegetable the better,  or try a few of these:

The recommended amount of fiber daily is 30g

Per average serving amount:

Cooked brown rice = 1.9g

Canned chickpeas = 6.9g

Serving of dark green vegetables = 3.3g

Dried fruit = 4.1g

Nuts = 1.3g

Seeds = 2.4g

Steel cut oats = 4.5g
