Baton Rouge Dodges A Tropical Storm Bullet

Folks in the Baton Rouge area, like the rest of Louisiana, are breathing a sigh of relief after dodging the fury that Tropical Storm Gordon could have brought to the state.

The system made landfall late last night west of the Alabama-Mississippi state line with sustained winds in the ballpark of 70 miles per hour.  Officials in Louisiana were bracing for a landfall closer to the Pelican State.

As it turns out, all watches and warnings for coastal areas of the state were dropped with the 10 p.m. advisory from the National Hurricane Center, though some northeastern areas of the state may still have to deal with winds and rains from Gordon as it moves toward the northwest.

Gordon was downgraded to a tropical depression Wednesday.
