This Carly Rae Jepsen 'Emotion' Tribute Album Is Low-Key Amazing

Carly Rae Jepsen's beloved pop record, Emotion, has received the tribute treatment.

On Wednesday (November 21), Something Merry, a benefit compilation of artists who both write and cover holiday songs, re-issued Jepsen's third studio LP for a covers album. It's a big task for the Boston-based collective, as the record was largely considered one of the greatest of its genre when it landed in June 2015.

Aptly titled and styled EMO-TION in part after the Canadian songbird's original work, the record features emo acts like THE AUX, Happy Just to See You, Cheer Up and more up-and-comers tackling the greatest hits from the Queen of Bops' most lauded body of work to date.

Mandancing, a band that only "plays songs from the heart," takes a faithful leap to slow down Jepsen's bubblegum-pop ditty "I Really Like You," Boston "bummer pop band" Future Teens keeps the tempo going on their rollicking rendition of "Run Away With Me" and Tuft, a solo project of Jessica Hesse, offers a polite and assuring prom-style version of "I Didn't Just Come Here to Dance."

Our verdict? This tribute record has no skips whatsoever.

Despite the lesser-knowness of its contributors, the finished product is nothing short of a jam we're sure Jepsen would be proud of.
