To find this, U.S. researchers had a group of 20 older adults watch a funny video for 20 minutes, while a control group just sat calmly doing nothing. Then all participants were given memory tests and had a saliva sample tested for stress hormones. Researchers found that those who watched the funny video scored better on the short-term memory tests and had lower levels of the stress hormone cortisol in their saliva.
